On the night of July 7, 1983, a man named Marvin Pancoast murdered a model named Vicki Morgan with a wooden baseball bat in a North Hollywood condominium.
Morgan had been the mistress of Alfred Bloomingdale, heir to the department store fortune, for 12 years.
The murder produced a first-degree conviction, a 234 page sworn deposition detailing Alfred’s romantic “practices”, allegations of tapes involving Reagan appointees and a sitting congressman “caught in the act,” and federal subpoenas issued to the FBI.
Now, Betsy Bloomingdale, Alfred’s wife, absorbed every particle of it from her estate on Delfern Drive in Holmby Hills.
She continued hosting dinners. She continued dressing in Dior.
And she continued placing calls to Nancy Reagan at the White House.
